Collaboration Fantasies
With the current collaboration between Billy Corgan and Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, and the recent posting of a classic Guns N' Roses performance on the Smashing Pumpkins Nexus, I couldn't help but be reminded of how Billy once said on Twitter that he would be honored to collaborate with Axl Rose on a musical project. Billy is no stranger to showing his support for Axl, as they have gone through similar band-fates, being the sole remaining members of their legendary bands while still pushing on, and also both having reputations based on rumors of being difficult to work with. Billy also complimented Axl, saying he is one of the most amazing vocalists in the history of rock and roll (and I completely agree).
Although a collaboration between Billy and Axl feels like a far-fetched fantasy, it's completely feasible that such a thing could happen. Surely, amazing music could be made between the two. The big question is - although they are both immensely talented, how would they work together? Would they clash or gel? Or a little of both? I can only hope that they'd figure a way to make it work out. Axl's Chinese Democracy is an amazing album that is extremely under-rated, and he still has a wealth of material he's sitting on that hasn't been released - similar to Billy.
It should be noted that Smashing Pumpkins once actually opened for Guns N' Roses in the early 90's. May fate have it so that will not be the only pairing of the two amazing musicians.
As for other potentially incredible collaborations? I'm partial to a Mazzy Star/SP project. Get some Hope Sandoval in on that.
